Slap-up recipe - specially like the addition of cayenne and hot sauce - it gave the craven some zest without being over powering. I too used a carmine/blackness pepper blend in the flour, which gave it extra flavor. I used a whole chicken, cutting up and fried my pieces in my electric skillet and so transferrred them to a hot oven 350-375 to cease cooking. I as well brined the chicken pieces in an ice water/salt bath (so they would drain) for almost 40 minutes before putting them in buttermilk - because of the common salt water bath, I omitted all salt. Will definitely be making this once again! Thank you.

This was really good. I soaked the chicken in buttermilk overnight. It didn't seem spicy to me, simply information technology crusted nicely and was very good.

This recipe is a copy of the the Neely Family Spicy Fried Chicken recipe from FoodNetwork.com with one variation . . . vegetable oil versus the recommended peanut oil. I like it with peanut oil best.

So succulent! I omitted the hot pepper sauce and used 1/2 tsp of cayenne for the buttermilk mixture and 1 tsp of cayenne for the flour mixture because I didn't want information technology to exist too spicy for my kids. UPDATED: I have easily made this 50 times and I take a few tips. -If you want to decrease the cayenne don't omit the cayenne in the buttermilk. It gives information technology an awesome flavor. -I use chicken breasts cutting into strips -put chicken with buttermilk/cayenne in a large ziplock back and the put in refrigerator -mix flour mixture in another bag -dip betwixt bags using 2 forks (trust me...) -Double dip. Always double dip. Information technology makes them actually crispy. Dip in flour then buttermilk then back in flour. So in the oil. -put a cookie rack on a sheet pan covered in paper towels. Put craven on at that place after cooking. Keeps them from getting soggy. This is our family unit go to.

LEAVE THE SKIN ON THE CHICKEN! dont do what i did (trim the skin off the chicken; i did it westward/o thinking equally i always de-skin craven ) i followed this to a T .. however, i added raw garlic & onion to the buttermik bath & soaked the chicken in it for 4 hrs. i did not utilize hot sauce or garlic powder . & i added creole seasoning to the flour . (which i put in a ziploc & shimmy shook the chicken in that ) i also let the coated chicken peices "paste" in the blanket earlier frying. i used a cast iron pan & filled it one/iii due west/veg oil. i only turned the chicken ONCE. & that was afterwards 10-15 mins of frying on the 1st side. this was THE Best , JUICIEST fried chicken ive e'er made!

Great recipe. I used craven tenderloins instead of a whole chicken and they turned out really well. I made two batches over the coarse of 3 days and found the get-go batch to be a little lacking in the estrus department so during the next batch I tripled the hot sauce in the marinade and tripled the cayenne in the breading and that did the trick.

This was the best and crispiest fried chicken I have had. Meliorate than whatsoever restaurant. The craven was moist and the coating did not come up away in the pan. I cooked it in my grandfathers cast iron chicken fryer with a mixture of vegetable oil and duck fatty. The flavour was amazing. Even the leftovers tasted great.

Bland, no pop no snap non spicy, if your are looking for spicy don't waste your time or chicken.
11/02/2014
I used tenderloins, and followed the recipe every bit-is (using a deep fryer). Didn't really gustation whatever spice, then next fourth dimension I'll probably double or triple the spices. We similar spicy foods a lot! Came out great otherwise!
07/27/2014
I would eat this for every meal.
01/21/2014
I admittedly Honey this recipe. We all take variations that we employ to brand each recipe that nosotros prepare to our own liking. My 'variation' is that I pan fry it until brown and then put on a cooling rack on top of a rimmed cookie sheet and then put in a 350* oven to finish baking. I volition make again and once again and once again! GREAT RECIPE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay. I simply gave it three stars not because it wasn't good, it was practiced. It wasn't bang-up, only that'southward because I didn't brand it great. I fabricated drumsticks and cooked it for thirteen or then minutes each and each came out really dark. Is that how it's supposed to expect? Also, I let information technology marinate for just a little over two hours, merely there really wasn't much flavor. Information technology might have been considering it lacked a sufficient corporeality of pepper/seasoning/pepper sauce.
09/18/2012
I also doubled the cayenne and hot pepper sauce. Delicious!!!
12/29/2016
Not spicy enough for me but was still good.
01/18/2014
It was good just not astonishing. Information technology needed more spiciness and season. I need not taste the cayenne at all.thousand. I added some Italian spices, seasoned salt, and even a limitless adobo, again, but ok. The crust did stick very well.
04/02/2017
I liked information technology, it's tasty but non spicy enough for me.
09/26/2015
Good crust, only not nigh spicy enough. Next time I'll double or triple the cayenne in the flour dredge. Also 3 cups flour is a lot of wastage. I used 2 cups and nonetheless had tons left over.
11/18/2015
Not spicy, very bland.
ten/06/2015
Didn't make any changes this time but will next time. There was no heat. Too much buttermilk captivated all the estrus. Next time I volition up the spices to really have some oestrus. Otherwise a expert.
09/25/2015
I used double the hot sauce (that I know is hot) north double the cayenne in the wet mix. I also used i less cup of flour n double the cayenne in that. I followed everything else and information technology was not even a tiny bit spicy. If you like it hot go somewhere else.
06/07/2017
I would go far again, but was non the most flavorful recipe! Was non very Spicy!!
09/04/2020
Wasnt spicey at all merely good flavour.
04/29/2017
Great recipe. I doubled the cayenne and added some chipotle pepper to the marinade and let sit for 24 hours. Also added extra cayenne to breading. Still needs more heat in my opinion simply I'll become information technology right next fourth dimension. I likewise double dipped and used peanut oil. Very delicious, will absolutely make again.
04/24/2018
This was an easy recipe to follow and the chicken was moist and tender. I did tweak it slightly by kicking upwards the estrus. Will definitely brand this once again
x/07/2021
This was practiced only it just wasn't flavorful plenty for me. I know I could add together seasoning but I but Trusted the recipe. So yeah 3 stars needs more than spice and gustation
eleven/21/2016
I joined just and then I could rate this recipe. It's wonderful. I did, however, double the cayenne and pepper sauce. And, I didn't have buttermilk so I substituted homemade Ranch Dressing. Roommate wouldn't let me share with my sons next door! Lol
09/24/2018
It came out juicy and tasted great!
12/09/2015
These are pretty tasty! Next time nosotros will endeavour these in the deep fryer.
04/25/2016
I liked this a lot, but next time I'll double the spice measurements, I thought it could use more flavor.
09/15/2020
Very good, well-detailed recipe for excellent fried chicken. Very similar to my method, but a couple of suggestions. 1. Two cups of buttermilk are enough - more is a waste material and dilutes the spicy touch. (If you really desire super hot, try sprinkling hot sauce, similar a Tabasco, directly on the raw chicken pieces and let it fix for an hour before the buttermilk step). ii. Try using one-half lard and half oil (or Solid shortening) for a real southern flavor. If you can't cope with lard, add ane/2 cup bacon drippings to the oil.

I made this recipe as wings and drumsticks. The business firm smelled WONDERFUL!!! My kids are begging me to brand information technology again !!! Thanks for sharing!!!
07/23/2016
I did not make any changes and I would love to brand it multiple times again.
09/28/2016
I made this recipe and added a few touches of my own. I like spicy food and then I increased the cayenne pepper three fold. I too, allowed chicken to set 15 minutes on a rack after dipping in milk and rolling in flour. This method increases the crispness of the frying procedure. Overall, the receipt was on bespeak and I take added this one to my favorite's listing.
07/20/2020
I fabricated mine with a smokey habanero hot sauce and it was amazing!!
05/25/2020
The title to this recipe is astonishingly misleading. In that location is no spice to it any. I idea the tiny amounts of ingredients used to make information technology "hot" were a little suspect. Definitely not spicy. Will not make again.
06/06/2020
as I don't deep fry foods (information technology takes a lot to be cooked properly only out layer gets overcooked) I found a much healthier way, I precooked chicken in oven then I combined it with batter and fried for around five minutes( till information technology gets gilded in color) information technology was sooo delish thanks for recipe!
